"MAITAR" -
as the name suggests, is about friends and friendship.
The
base of the friendship stands
firm due to one common thing between them - they are
all artists.
Sharvari is a graceful kathak dancer-actress, Bela-
a melodious singer. Shaunak too, a tuned classical
singer while Salil who holds a MBBS degree is a musician-singer.
Sandip, a young poet and Subodh is a fine actor. These
six young artists have all made a good name for themselves
in their areas of interest. Each
show of "MAITAR” is
going to be a unique one as the performances
in all the segments
except for the last one are going to be changed
each time. There are 5 segments in the show with different themes.
The show opens with a segment where all six members
introduce themselves in their own unique way. Their
art speaks for itself. Thus
the show begins. In the second segment, these friends
talk
about
their elders – “gurus” or
idols in their own field and pay tribute to them with
their art -"kalaa". The third segment is an interesting one where each
one presents a composition which is not their own,
but is a memory of someone they look up to and would
have liked to perform if given a chance. In the fourth segment, roles are inter-changed. The
actors become singers and the poets and singers enact.
The audience is amazed with this segment as they get
to see a side of these young artists that is not known
to the common viewer. These six are a box of surprise. The last segment is a wonderful fusion of all the
artists together. An inspiring, youthful, fiery poem
about the future of these young artists is written
by Sandip, composed by Salil, sung by Bela, Shaunak
and Salil. Sharvari and Subodh add to it by performing
in between the stanzas in their own way. In
short, “MAITAR” is a light musical
- theatrical show of 6 artists who have come together
because of their "kalaa". They get to know
each other with the help of their art forms and informal
short chats. The audience involvement increases with
each segment and by the end of the show, they too feel
part of the group. “MAITREE” – the
friendship is extended to the audience as well. |
